Household advantage and disadvantage

The Australia Bureau of Statistics has created an experimental index of household advantage and disadvantage. This socioeconomic measure is based on the characteristics of dwellings and the people living in them.

In South Australia, 17% of young people lived in households that are the most disadvantaged and 33% in the most advantaged in 2016, compared to 14% and 38% Australia-wide.

In the Port Lincoln – Ceduna and Port Augusta regions two-thirds (67%) of Aboriginal young people lived in the most disadvantaged households in 2016.
