Sport outside school

In 2018, 74% of all year 4 to year 10 students in South Australia participated in sport outside school hours, a slight increase from 2016 (71%).

In metropolitan Adelaide, the two regions with the highest proportion of year 4 to year 10 students participating in sport outside school was Holdfast Bay and Unley (both 85%). In regional/remote South Australia the two regions with the highest proportion was Eyre Peninsula and South West, and Limestone Coast (both 77%).

The proportion of Aboriginal students and students with disability participating in sport outside school was 69% and 58% respectively.

Children and young people participating in creative activities

In 2017-18, 67% of children and young people aged 5-14 years in South Australia participated in 1 or more creative activities in the previous 12 months, compared to 63% nationally.

Creative activities included participation in drama, singing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, art and craft, creative writing or creating digital content.

The largest proportion of children and young people that participated in creative activities was 5-8 year olds (43%). Those who participated in creative activities in the previous 12 months, were most likely to have participated in 3 activities (26%).
